A layer of ice

As some may have noticed, on my photos page there are a couple more pictures that I have taken recently. Due to two more cold fronts, Missouri has gotten snow, and a great deal of ice. Currently, there is a half inch of ice coating our entire neighborhood providing a perfect environment for sledding. The roads are finally clear, and it is a beautiful day today.

Thinking about ice among other things, has reminded me of a song by  Tenth Avenue North called “Healing Begins”. It’s about redemption, but something tells me its also about Christians. The first verse goes like this:

‘So you thought you had to keep this up/ all the work that you do so we think that you’re good/and you can’t believe its not enough/ all the walls you built up are just glass on the outside/ So let them fall down/ There’s freedom waiting in the sound/ When you let your walls fall to the ground, we’re here now…’

The song is really beautiful as it continues but what gets me thinking is those first few lines. As Christians, are we really living the way we should? Or are we- am I- putting up a facade only around other Christians? Do we have completely different personalities that we show only with certain people? If we do, what can we do about it?

The Bible teaches that honesty is key in all that we do. “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.” (Prov. 12:19) While this certainly does mean that in all that we say tell the truth, it also means our lives should not be hiding something. We should live our lives pleasing to God in ‘thought, word and deed.’ A tough order, yes, but it is the right path to take. Lies are like peanuts, you start with one, but you usually end up having a lot more than you planned. By the time it’s said and done, you’ve dug a hole so deep, you’re ashamed to ask for help.

The best thing to do in that case is not be afraid to ask for help. Get an accountability partner, talk to your parents or a friend, find someone who will help you out. God is willing to forgive, if you will repent. If you’re not in that hole, than great! But be watchful for those who might be. As always continue giving “an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have, doing this with gentleness and respect.”

In Christ,

Caleb

  1. Great post! “Lies are like peanuts, you start with one, but you usually end up having a lot more than you planned.” 🙂

Thanks. Even when it hurts, truth is always the best way to go.
